Features and design: We generally associate G-Technology with Apple products, although it also makes many devices that work with both ecosystems, and most G-Tech equipment should also work with Linux. What the G-Drive Mobile SSD name actually means is a mobile solid state drive that can deliver speeds comparable to internal SATA SSDs that use USB 3.1 technology.

In recent years, I have relied too heavily on standalone LaCie robust drives for both functions, but a new drive from G-Tech has taken over for the latter: the G-Drive Mobile SSD. With a speed of 500GB SSD over a USB-C connection, this little one is small enough to fit in a jacket pocket, but generally has enough storage capacity to handle entire video projects and I have to get my MacBook Pro Allows you to work remotely directly. Being a unit with no moving parts, G-Tech was able to make this unit much smaller than you would expect from this capacity and you don't have to worry about shock or vibration when using it.

G-Tech rates the G-Drive mobile SSD at a transfer speed of 560MB / s, which is much faster and generally necessary for you than any traditional use. In our tests, we found that it may never reach the promised speed, but it does well. Aside from the sudden poor performance with the Thunderbolt 3 cable (seriously, don't use the T3 cable with this thing), the speed looks good, though less than the estimated 560MB / s.

This is because we are on par with another G-Tech product (G-Drive Slim) in test. This makes sense, as G-Drive Mobile is internal hardware and SSD, at least based on the test results. The Slim also offers a capacity of only 500GB, while the mobile offers two sizes above. Speaking of capacity, your talk can contain a lot. The 1TB gets a lot more expensive at $ 350 and the 2TB comes in at $ 750. Most of you will probably get 500GB of enough storage and it's hard to argue that at that price.

For those who require more space, it is good to know that there are options. I'm used to reviewing storage devices from major brands with great warranties (it comes with a ridiculous 5-year warranty!) Certainly the higher capacity may hit you a bit on the price, but the base model is one of the best storage deals I've ever seen.
