You can reduce the f-stop to f-4.5, an excellent setting for shooting in bright light and improving image quality: 1,924 lines when the lens is off. The widest aperture at maximum zoom is f / 4.9. Images in this setting are slightly smoother, 1,707 lines. Reducing the aperture doesn't do any good: the resolution drops to 1,600 lines at f / 6.3 and 1,595 lines at the minimum setting of f / 18. Imatest also checks photos for noise. The TG-5 has a wide ISO range for compacts, starting at ISO 100 and going up to ISO 12800. It is not placed on loan, which stays below 1.5 percent when shooting JPG through ISO 1600.

There are definitely some smoothies that go too far. Fine details in this setting, but image quality is still solid for cameras with sensors of this size and resolution. Higher quality JPGs, showing very little loss of clarity, are captured through ISO 400. On the other side of ISO 1600, we see more significant blur at ISO 3200, and JPG shooting at ISO 6400 and ISO is unknown. The TG-5 supports RAW capture, which involves no reduction in camera noise.

So you get sharper shots at higher ISOs at the cost of some additional grain. Results are strong through ISO 1600, without the blur we see in JPG shots. If you don't rule out a grainy look, you can definitely stick with ISO 3200. At ISO 6400, the results are quite difficult, but the details stand out. ISO 12800 feels distant as a bridge, even when shooting in RAW the noises are large and inflammatory, blurring details.

4K is a great thing for anything but video, as it is an unusual feature in compact cameras. It's limited to shooting at 30fps, and the frame is slightly widened so its wide-angle coverage is limited. But the video quality is strong, with sharp details and a high 75Mbps bit rate.
